About this workshop
Advanced Clinical Workshops in Advanced Integrative EMDR. Each with 12 hours of Continuing Education/CPD credits.
With support from our EMDRAA-accredited EMDR Consultant colleague Annabel McGoldrick, we’re holding our second Unleash your EMDR workshop online for Australia in October 2020, covering intergenerational trauma, parts and dreams, and planning to bring our hugely successful Part 1 workshop in 2021 in-person to Sydney.
For Part 1 EMDR Focus workshops, we welcome therapists already familiar with basic EMDR protocols, with practical coaching in an Attachment-Informed approach to working with client dysfunctions rooted in developmental experiences in childhood.
See here for a blog report on our first Unleash your EMDR Part 1 workshop for Australia in July/August 2020, with some 60 colleagues taking part (including Steve’s Big Crow puppet featured above!).
Part 2, open to those who have already attended our own EMDR Focus Part 1 workshop with Mark Brayne, is now scheduled for October 2020, adding intergenerational EMDR and working with Parts and Dreams to the basics of Attachment-Informed EMDR.
All our workshops are built around teaching, discussion and live demonstrations of AF-EMDR in action, with supervised triad work as therapist, client and observer.
Mark Brayne is online workshop leader, with Jutta Brayne, Annabel and other UK-based EMDR Focus Facilitators joining in on the online conferencing platform Zoom. August 2021 will be delivered in person by Annabel, in Sydney.
Although these workshops no longer have the formal endorsement of our US colleague Dr Laurel Parnell, author of the definitive EMDR texts on working with attachment, Mark Brayne’s research into Dr Parnell’s AF-EMDR, presented at the March 2018 London conference of the EMDR Association UK & Ireland, drew on returns from nearly 90 AF-EMDR-trained therapists and nearly 50 clients treated with this approach, and highlighted the value and power of working with more complex presentations.
Without challenging the place of the Standard Protocol in EMDR training, our workshops aim to inspire and resource clinicians currently struggling with how best to use EMDR with complex clients, also generating practice-based evidence in how appropriately to work with more difficult client groups.
- Attachment-informed case conceptualisation, and the importance of understanding and working with attachment in addressing the root causes of most client presentations.
- The use of creative imagination in the effective resourcing of even the most complex clients.
- The proactive use of the bridging technique to identify developmental targets most likely to deliver change in a client’s current life.
- A wide range of imaginal and creative interweaves to facilitate client healing in accordance with the principles of Adaptive Information Processing.
- The importance and value of session structure when working with childhood trauma and the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
- And for Unleash Part 2, the role of intergenerational trauma, parts/ego states and dreams in advanced EMDR.
(Please note that we spend only a short time on the science, theory or practice of attachment in general, emphasising rather how EMDR can be brought to bear on presenting distress that has roots in a client’s early attachment experience. All attendees are expected to have already a functioning basic knowledge of attachment theory.)
Thankyou Mark and team. I absolutely loved the training. In anticipation of the training, I was worried about it being online (sustaining attention, hearing the speakers properly) however I was pleasantly surprised about how easy it was to attend for the time period set over the 3 days and how engaging it felt with the facilitators and participants.
I am reasonably new to EDMR, however have used the new protocol quite a few times this week already and am blown away by the results. THANKYOU!
It is the first time I have done any webinar training longer than an hour. I was in trepidation that I would be too tired or it would not hold my attention. How wrong was I?
The formatting over three days was excellent so I wasn’t overly tired, and also had time for me to process my learning. The skills practice felt very intimate and the use of the chat room felt everybody had a voice.
(I learned) how this will fill the gaps in the No Words protocol and Standard Protocol. How fabulous Attachment-Informed and Intergenerational EMDR is and how contained and containing it is (when used well).
Mark is the best trainer I have come across. He exudes expertise, is engaging, compassionate – and I would even use the word “gifted”- at what he does. For me, EMDR has come to life!
It was just the most incredible weekend, absolutely life-changing personally and professionally. It has changed and shaped my EMDR practice for ever more. Thank you!
Mark’s creative approach to Attachment-Focused EMDR brings clarity and focus to working with the root causes of trauma, and the demonstration session was very inspiring.
It was a wonderful and inspiring weekend – learning on so many levels, and this approach certainly expands the possibilities for EMDR within psychotherapy.
These workshops include full, in-depth and live demonstrations of EMDR with a real personal issue. This can be a very powerful experience, both for the group and for the volunteer kindly offering themselves to work openly this way.
Participants are invited to work in pairs and triads on similarly real issues, using the tools of attachment-informed EMDR, and this too can go surprisingly deep.
While we find that participants value this opportunity, both as therapist and client, the experience can be triggering. For our part, we commit to doing our best to keep the training safe and contained. We correspondingly ask participants to take responsibility for their own responses, and to remain at all times open and respectful towards the processes and learnings that will unfold as the workshops proceed.
You will of course have the opportunity to decline to bring personal issues to the practicum, but for your own sake and that of others on the workshop, please do allow space for a willingness to be vulnerable, as well as to be bold.
By registering for an EMDR Focus workshop, and recognising that participation can involve both observation and personal experience of sometimes profound trauma processing, participants agree to take appropriate responsibility for their own emotional wellbeing, and to ensure they have access to any necessary therapeutic and/or supervisory support following the workshop.
If you need to cancel up to six weeks before the workshop, we will refund your fee minus a 10% handling charge. After that, refunds will be at the discretion of Annabel McGoldrick and EMDR Focus.
