Turbocharged by the Corona crisis, we have switched to entirely online delivery, with three versions of our popular Unleash workshops, all with full facilitated triad work and the opportunity seriously to practise new, focused skills in case conceptualisation, target identification and session structure.
This page sets out the details of our Unleash your EMDR – Release the Magic Part 1 workshops, covering the fundamentals of what we’re now calling advanced EMDR for complex trauma.
All our trainings have EMDR Association UK CPD points (12 hours for Parts 1 and 2, six hours for each part of the addictions/couples Part 3).
Previously two-day workshops now run over three part-days, five hours each.
Our next Part 1 is pitched in timing terms at Australia and New Zealand, running 1600-2100 AEST (0700-1200 UK time) over three days from Friday to Sunday July 30-August 1 2021.
Part 1 specifically for the UK (early risers are welcome in July of course) runs from 1330 to 1830 UK time Friday November 26, then Saturday/Sunday both 0900-1300.
Parts 2 and 3 are open to anyone who’s done Unleash Part 1, with Part 3 bookable individually for those interested in one or other subject, but not necessarily both at the same time.

About this workshop
In these advanced trainings in integrative, attachment-informed EMDR for complex trauma, Mark Brayne teaches ways to work with the most challenging clients, with tight focus on case conceptualisation and offering profound understanding of how childhood developmental issues play into most adult presentations in psychotherapy.
The workshops provide a unique opportunity to learn, at warp-speed, how to deliver impactful EMDR online, with full facilitation of triad practicums using Zoom’s online breakout rooms.
Unleash Part 1 takes you through the essential attachment-informed focus on case conceptualisation that will transform how you work with clients – asking yourself from the very beginning, “How did this person get to be this way, and therefore, where do we need to go in EMDR?”
With a strong and explicit emphasis on safety and on powerful, richly imaginal resources, we get quickly and efficiently to the nub of how to change the way our clients experience themselves in the world now.
Which, after all, is why they came into therapy in the first place.
Uniquely we believe (for the moment) in advanced EMDR training in the UK, we give you the space, online, to practise these new skills in full and for real, with detailed support from our experienced (and friendly!) team of EMDR Focus facilitators.
Running since 2017, our EMDR Focus workshops are open to therapists already familiar with basic EMDR protocols (and trained to at least UK Level 3/4 or US/Australia/NZ Level 2), and built around full live demonstrations of online EMDR with complex trauma, including teaching, discussion and full facilitated practicums as both therapist and client.
- Attachment-informed case conceptualisation, and the importance of understanding and working with attachment in addressing the root causes of most client presentations.
- The use of creative imagination in the effective resourcing of even the most complex clients.
- The proactive use of bridging/floatback to identify developmental targets most likely to deliver change in a client’s current life.
- A wide range of imaginal and creative interweaves to facilitate client healing in accordance with the principles of Adaptive Information Processing.
- The importance and value of session structure when working with childhood trauma and the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
(Please note that we spend only a short time on the science, theory or practice of attachment in general, emphasising rather how EMDR can be brought to bear on presenting distress that has roots in a client’s early attachment experience. All attendees are expected to have already a functioning basic knowledge of attachment theory.)
Mark Brayne’s own research into Dr Laurel Parnell’s Attachment-Focused EMDR, presented at the March 2018 London conference of the EMDR Association UK & Ireland, drew on returns from nearly 90 AF-EMDR-trained therapists and nearly 50 clients treated with this approach, and highlighted the value and power of working in this way with more complex presentations.
Your training is so good and so thorough, it’s like having the full training again, with extra. I love how it keeps to one central concept rather than reinventing techniques for different diagnoses.
I have been using everything I’ve learned and already am starting to see this make an incredible difference. It also reinforced for me that as a learner I really need that experiential element to consolidate what I learn by reading.
Mark and team create an immediately and incredibly trusting and safe environment in which to work. This enables vulnerabilities to come forth and realise effective work from the get go.
One of the most powerful and valuable courses I have experienced.
Mark’s enthusiasm for EMDR, and his love of teaching, which is clearly a passion for him, is infectious and what makes training with him so enjoyable and leaves you wanting more!
A fabulous combination of theory and practice, professionalism and warmth, seriousness and humour … all of which made for a brilliant learning environment. Skilfully done, thank you!
Mark’s passion for working in an attachment-informed way is inspiring and his depth of knowledge immense. The quality of the written materials provided is excellent.
It was an incredible weekend, with so much amazing knowledge delivered so compassionately. It has completely transformed how I approach my EMDR sessions and given me the ability to reach an entirely new level of healing with my clients. Genuinely transformative and magical.
These workshops include full, in-depth and live demonstrations of EMDR with a real personal issue. This can be a very powerful experience, both for the group and for the volunteer kindly offering themselves to work openly this way.
Participants are invited to work in triads on similarly real issues, using the tools of attachment-informed EMDR, and this too can go surprisingly deep.
While we find that participants value this opportunity, both as therapist and client, the experience can be triggering. For our part, we commit to doing our best to keep the training safe and contained. We correspondingly ask participants to take responsibility for their own responses, and to remain at all times open and respectful towards the processes and learnings that will unfold as the workshops proceed.
You will of course have the opportunity to decline to bring personal issues to the practicum, but for your own sake and that of others on the workshop, please do allow space for a willingness to be vulnerable, as well as to be bold.
By registering for an EMDR Focus workshop, and recognising that participation can involve both observation and personal experience of sometimes profound trauma processing, participants agree to take appropriate responsibility for their own emotional wellbeing, and to ensure they have access to any necessary therapeutic and/or supervisory support following the workshop.
If you need to cancel up to six weeks before the workshop, we will refund your fee minus a 10% handling charge. After that, refunds will be at the discretion of EMDR Focus.
