James Thomas has been a Registered Mental Health Nurse for the past 25 years, and in 2014 was one of the first EMDR enthusiasts in the UK to train in depth (attending together with Mark Brayne a small group training event in York) with Dr Laurel Parnell.
During his quarter century on the front line, James has worked within the NHS in a broad spectrum of mental health care settings, including acute inpatient and continuing care wards, and as a Community Psychiatric Nurse.
He spent 10 years working as a criminal Justice Liaison Nurse working in Police custody suites, Probation services and Magistrates courts.
James has a Masters degree in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy, and worked in primary care CBT service before moving in to his current role as a therapist in a secondary care NHS CBT service.
His team specialises in chronic and complex anxiety problems, and James’s own special interest is in PTSD and complex trauma, especially as experienced by military veterans, police and emergency services, as well as by adult survivors of childhood trauma and migrant populations and survivors of torture (James often works with interpreters).
James is a BABCP-accredited CBT therapist, an EMDR practitioner and is currently extending skills by working towards accreditation as an EMDR consultant.
He lives and works in Derbyshire with his family.
