Workshop Outline
In our advanced EMDR Focus workshops in integrative, advanced and transpersonal EMDR for attachment-informed complexity, Mark Brayne teaches ways to work with the most challenging clients.
We bring special focus to case conceptualisation and target identification, with what might be termed radical curiosity around how childhood developmental issues play into adult distress.
For this bespoke, three-half-day workshop with TAUK for the Arab world, we’ll take you through the essential attachment-informed focus on case conceptualisation which we hope might transform how you work with clients – asking yourself from the very beginning, “How did this person get to be this way?” and flowing from that, “Where do we need to go in EMDR?”
With a strong and explicit emphasis on targeting, session structure, and with powerful, richly imaginal resources, we get quickly and efficiently to the nub of how to shift the way our clients experience themselves in the world now – and when we get there, we give you the tools to make the difference.
Our EMDR Focus workshops have been running since 2017, welcoming therapists already familiar with basic EMDR protocols.
Course Content
- Phase 1: Attachment-informed case conceptualisation, and the importance of understanding and working with attachment in addressing the root causes of most client presentations.
- Phase 2: The use of rich and creative imagination in the effective resourcing of even the most complex clients.
- Phase 3a: The proactive use of bridging to identify developmental targets most likely to deliver change in a client’s current life.
- Phase 3b: How best and most appropriately to activate those targets, focusing especially on the Modified Protocol of Image/ Emotion/ Body/ Belief, with the Silent Memories approach, or indeed with Jim Knipe’s Levels of Urge, Urge to Avoid, and Level of Positive Affect.
- Phase 4: Processing and rewiring the past with an appropriately wide range of attachment-informed imaginal and creative interweaves to facilitate client healing in accordance with the principles of Adaptive Information Processing.
- And then Phases 3-7+8: The critical importance and value of Session Structure when working safely and effectively with the impact of developmental deficits in our clients’ formative childhood years.
Testimonials
From the EMDR Focus attachment training I have learnt so much. It has absolutely transformed my practice. An analogy would be the standard protocol although good feels like vanilla ice cream whereas the Attachment-Informed EMDR I have done with EMDR Focus is like the Ferrero Rocher with all the sprinkles on.
Mark, you are SO good at what you do, and I think I will be longing to be half as good as you for years to come. Thank you for imparting your wisdom and knowledge to us so we can at least try to get there! The PowerPoint was very well-done, informative, and engaging; the content itself was extraordinary. I don’t think I ever once zoned out – you had my full attention the whole time!
I believe the Attachment-Informed version of EMDR is a game-changer, and I think if I had been using it earlier with some of my clients, I would have seen better results much sooner. I look back on some “flopped” EMDR attempts with clients and think ai-EMDR is just what I needed, so I’m grateful to have it now.
One of the most powerful and valuable courses I have experienced.
