With thanks to so many colleagues from New Zealand and Australia who’ve already expressed interest, bookings are now open for a reprise of the in-person attachment-informed EMDR workshops which Mark and Jutta Brayne had to cancel (Covid) in August 2020.
Scroll on down for the booking form, with prices set between NZ$525 for our two days in Auckland, and AU$795 for all three days in Sydney. Note that at present, we are not expecting to record these workshops for later viewing.
All the two-day workshops are approved for 12 EMDRIA CE credits each.
Beyond Trauma – What’s Distinctive about ai-EMDR
Exploring integrative, advanced and transpersonal EMDR for attachment-informed complexity, and taking the work beyond trauma into the rich world of early-life formative experience, Mark Brayne teaches ways to work with pretty much anyone who comes through your literal or virtual therapy door, including especially the most challenging clients.
Listening to previous workshop attendees who’ve made clear this is what they most appreciate, our special focus as we travel through New Zealand and Australia will be on showing actually how this approach works, with emphasis on live demonstrations with volunteers (you? – you can flag interest on the form) and full Q&A explorations after each as to what unfolded, why and how.
We bring special focus to case conceptualisation and target identification, with what might be termed radical curiosity around how childhood developmental issues play into adult distress – asking yourself from the very beginning, “How did this person get to be this way?” and flowing from that, “Where does EMDR need to go?”
With a strong and explicit emphasis on targeting, session structure, and with powerful, richly imaginal resources, we get quickly and efficiently to the nub of how to shift the way our clients experience themselves in the world now – and when we get there, we show you tools that will make the difference.
Welcoming therapists already familiar with basic EMDR protocols, our EMDR Focus workshops have been running since 2017.
Dates (all 2026), Venues and Prices
Auckland: NZ$525.
- We start with two days in Auckland. Sunday-Monday February 15-16, 0900-1700 at the Parnell Conference Centre (yes, it really is Parnell, but as far as we know no relation to Laurel of the same surname), noting that this is a rather off-centre Sunday and Monday as those are the days pre-Waitangi weekend that work for the venue.
Sydney: Two days A$625, Three Days together A$795, Day Three alone A$195.
- We then fly on to Sydney for three full days Thursday-Saturday February 19-21 at the Crows Nest. Each day 0900-1700.
- Days 1 & 2 here will be a full introduction to/reminder of both the basics and the extended interweaves of ai-EMDR, with day three open also to old friends who are already well-versed in this way of working and keen to learn the latest and curious to go deeper. You can join for just two days, just the last day, or all three.
Melbourne: A$625
- We move on to Melbourne Friday-Saturday February 27-28 at the Abbotsford Convent.
Perth: A$695
- Finally, with special thanks to locally-based and fellow long-distance cyclist Graham Taylor of EMDR Australia training fame for putting the word of these workshops around, we round off our trip in Perth Friday-Saturday March 6-7 at the Fremantle Sailing Club. Note that this last workshop is a little pricier than the previous three as we’ll also be organising lunches as well as the usual coffees and teas.
While we’re not offering Early Bird booking options or specific discounts, if you feel you’ve got a good reason to ask to join us at lower cost, there’s a box in the registration form where you can make your case.
Noting that while we want to be generous, we do need at least to cover our costs, so won’t necessarily say yes to every request.
What You Can Expect to Learn
These workshops are for you if you want to:
- Gain a deep understanding of attachment-informed EMDR.
- Learn how to work beyond trauma with people’s Formative Experiences.
- Develop a whole new approach to working with clients using EMDR.
- Feel empowered to make a difference in your clients’ lives.
- Gain clarity on the ‘grammar’ of effective EMDR (Mark loves languages and will explain all).
- Transform your EMDR practice with permission to trust your skills and therapeutic intuition in Phase 4 (achieving better and faster results for your clients).
- Unleash the magic of EMDR and experience the closest thing to (whisper it quietly) what can sometimes feel, in the strictly scientific sense, miracle work.
Workshop Content
- Phase 1: Attachment-informed case conceptualisation, and the importance of understanding and working with attachment in addressing the root causes of most client presentations.
- Phase 2: The use of rich and creative imagination in the effective resourcing of even the most complex clients.
- Phase 3a: The proactive use of bridging to identify developmental targets most likely to deliver change in a client’s current life.
- Phase 3b: How best and most appropriately to activate those targets, focusing especially on the Modified Protocol of Image/ Emotion/ Body/ Belief, with the Silent Memories approach, or indeed with Jim Knipe’s Levels of Urge, Urge to Avoid, and Level of Positive Affect.
- Phase 4: Processing and rewiring the past with an appropriately wide range of attachment-informed imaginal and creative interweaves to facilitate client healing in accordance with the principles of Adaptive Information Processing. Distilling his learnings over 30 years as a psychotherapist, 20 of those with EMDR at the heart of his work and more than 10 now working explicitly with attachment, Mark will also share on day two of each workshop how he works with intergenerational trauma, dreams and parts.
- And then Phases 3-7+8: The critical importance and value of Session Structure when working safely and effectively with the impact of developmental deficits in our clients’ formative childhood years.
Testimonials
(Forgive us for including so many quotes below – these workshops don’t work for everyone, of course, but where the ideas resonate, they do seem to make quite a difference.
From the EMDR Focus attachment training I have learnt so much. It has absolutely transformed my practice. An analogy would be: the standard protocol, although good, feels like vanilla ice cream, whereas the attachment-informed EMDR I have done with EMDR Focus is like Ferrero Rocher with all the sprinkles on.
Mark, you are so good at what you do. Thank you for imparting your wisdom and knowledge to us so we can at least try to get there. The PowerPoint was very well done, informative, and engaging; the content itself was extraordinary. I don’t think I ever once zoned out – you had my full attention the whole time.
I believe the attachment-informed version of EMDR is a game-changer. If I had been using it earlier with some of my clients, I would have seen better results much sooner. I look back on some “flopped” EMDR attempts and think ai-EMDR is just what I needed. I’m grateful to have it now.
One of the most powerful and valuable courses I have experienced. This training got me excited about work again… An actual game changer.
The full hour demos were incredible. I immediately practiced what I learned my first Monday back — and the results were profound.
Mark Brayne was one of the best presenters I have been witness to in an EMDR training.
This was the best US$400 I have spent in a long time on a training. I feel invigorated with new passion for my work with others. A million thanks. Absolutely brilliant.
Brilliant. I was staggered at the speed of the modified and simplified protocol.
Your passion and enthusiasm is contagious and your knowledge incredible. I feel a lot more confident to use an attachment‑focused approach.
It was a wonderful and inspiring weekend – learning on so many levels. This approach certainly expands the possibilities for EMDR within psychotherapy.
